First of all, please excuse my English. I know it isn't very good and I find hard speaking in any language but Spanish.
I don't have the English version of Digital Fortress, just the Spanish one, but I'll try and explain the great errors that Dan Brown has made.
I'm Spanish and I'm from Seville. I find DF insulting for all the Spaniards. Dan Brown assures that he lived in Seville and attended the University of the city (it doesn't appear any Brown in the registers of the University) but I bet you anything you like that he even doesn't know where Seville is. Actually, he doesn't, he thinks Seville is in Extramudara, but it is in Andalusia.
He makes a lot of mistakes when he describes the city. For example, there aren't any stairs in the Giralda, but ramps; and the City Hall isn't in the Plaza de España, it isn't even near of it!!! Come on, was it so difficult looking for a street map on Internet? And what about reading a little about the Spanish culture? He says in the book that the bilberry juice is a typical drink in Seville. It's the first time I hear that this drink exists... And what about those "bastard Spaniards" taking communion at the beginning of the mass? Since he has written a book about Christ, he could know the Catholic rites. The Eucharist is the same in Spain, New York or Australia!
But the worst thing is that in DF it seems that Spain is a sort of third-world country. Hospitals smell to urine, the policemen are easily bribable, the Giralda isn't safe, some of the oldest quarters of the city like Triana are full of pushers, the telephone boxes don't work... What??? I couldn't believe it as I read it...
Conclusion: Dan Brown cannot distinguish an African hamlet from a civilized city like Seville. If when I read the Da Vinci Code I thought that Dan Brown was a mediocre author, now I know he writes dreadfully.
The Spaniards deserve an explanation and Brown owe us an apology.

Yes Esperanza, it is a realy bad work of research. I know Sevilla. I had lived in Sevilla between 1994 and 1995. I am portuguese and believe me, you don't see any Hulohot and the phone books The episode of the stairs in Giralda it's at least, ridiculous for anyone that knows the Giralda. Or the gap . the only thing I remember from Giralda its stone slope between walls. No sairs, no Gap. i dont remember to see the train station not even neer to "plaza de españa", and i have seen 18 years girls walking alone at nigth in Triana. Can you do that in New York?
This book had made me think about one thing. If he is so wrong in a subject I know, could i realy trust him in the other books? Or it's possible that there are more "Giralda's stairs" in the other books?

No, don't trust him in the other books - they're in the "fiction" section for a reason.
