I wasn't convinced of the way the meteorite was insterted from underneath the ice. If it was difficult to remove it from top (using that laser, to heat up a 8 ton stone), insterting it from below wasn't explained in the usual detail of Dan Brown at all.

no need to explain it because it was just in passing that it was mentioned (as inserted) and who but BILL PICKERING was the only one who knew about that insertion. and there was no time to tell the details because of teh fast paced action during his death. if the NRO has the money ( billions of it) and the technology (those fly spies etc) then inserting it would be no problem.

I had trouble also trying to picture how they could insert the meotorite, but I guess if you have money anything is possible (nearly).

I didn't find it taht confusing...it was simple, medium sized submersible, drill, get up in there insert the rock and let the ice freeze under it. As the ice froze the arms retracted so the rock got lodged under there, it just baffles me that pickering didn't do his research about the bioluminescent...or plain old salt water

I have read all four of Brown's books that are currently released and have to say I was disappointed in digital fortress and deception point.. Both had WAY too many twists for reality and I feel there were flaws in DP. As a writer that makes things interesting by incorporating so much fact, I think he made a couple obvious flaws. First, he dedicated an entire chapter outlining Pickering's hate and disgust for NASA because they essentially led to the death of his daughter, but then he ends up being the one try to save and glorify the public's opinion of NASA for national security? Not buying it! Two, is Tolland an Olympic swimmer? I have yet to meet the individual that would be able to to swim in a swirling current of 14 knots all while working on a sinking sub. Lastly, what kind of Delta force ops do we have that we have 3 nerdy scientists escaping danger with no weapons about 16 times. I can see once or twice, but come on Dan. His stories become interesting because there is so much factual information involved and yet sections of his stories treat the readers like the mentally disabled. Not impressed with DF and DP. Average at best. To me, it felt like he went out of his way to make an extra twist for suspense, but lessened the credibility of the story.
