St Sulpice

i went to paris recently (may 05) and found the ques at the louvre too long so gave it a miss. on the other hand, the st sulpice experience was great. there was an ongoing mass so i had to be discreet. the brass line is there and does go to one edge.
there is a placard criticising the da vinci code, without mentioning its name. it mentions that the line was not called the rose line and that it is simply part of an astronomical instrument.
then all of a suddenly they started to play the church pipe organ. it was one of the most surrealistic experinces of my life. it was so beautiful, the majestice sounds filling the cathedral. one can image a writer coming up with a million ideas in that atmosphere.the church is worth visiting for that reason alone, i think there is a website dedicated to the pipe organs of st sulpice.
has anyone else on this board been there? what was your experience?

I was in Paris last October and a stayed very near the
St.Sulpice. I've many churches but this one was one of the most impressive buildings I've ever seen. And a nice extra was of course the connection with "The Da Vinci Code"

The panel critsising the DVC is a wonderful example of powerful groups fearing novels. The last time that happend was the Nazi book burnings.

What panel is that? If you mean the one in Italy that gathered to discuss the book then that is because the book is full of lies and made up crap that belittles history, linguistics, a couple of faiths, in addition to authority, nationality, and more.

It's not fear - it's sorting the facts to one side (Holland) and the crap to the other (Mt. Everest)

I'd agree that pointing out the facts is a good thing, unlike the Nazi book burning, which eradicated ideas in general.

I agree but some of the DVC critics weren't even compelling in their argument against some of the facts disputed in DVC. I think.

We were in Paris, May 2005! We were there May 6-14. I loved it! We were able to get into the Louvre quite easily. (Easiest entry is from underground at the Carrousel...)

Also were at St Sulpice and the organ is magnificent. The copper line is Zero Meridian in Paris.

Honestly, despite the church's feeling towards DVC, I guarantee that they have seen a sharp increase in tourism there. I was in Paris in August, and went to visit St. Sulpice. My friend and I were among about a dozen other visitors all ending up at the same spot.

It's an amazing church -- and it's undergoing construction right now.
