Ah, another Canadian obscurity for you. The late Charles Templeton was a well-known Canadian evangelist from the Billy Graham school, who eventually renounced his faith and went on to expose what he felt were frauds perpetuated by the Christian church. He was a well-known broadcaster & journalist in Canada, and among many books he wrote was one called "Act of God". Again, another book you'll need to dig up from www.bookfinder.com, but it's a crime/mystery novel about two best friends, one a Cardinal destined to be Pope, and one an archeologist. The archeologist confides to his friend the Cardinal that he's discovered the bones of Christ, which is proof that Christ didn't rise after His death. To protect the church, the Cardinal murders the archeologist then has to live with the consequences.
Templeton wrote quite a few other novels, including one made into a bad movie called, "The Kidnapping of the President". You can read more about his life and theories here: Charles Templeton
