Just out of curiosity, why are signatures so small and why can we not post images?
Also, why is the avatar size so small. I have a tiny avatar, but it's something like 13000 bites, so I can't use it. How low are you guys on space and bandwidth?

You can't post images because spammers would cover this board with porn...and because no one wants to see the same banner sig over and over again with each post. We have 1200 gigs of bandwidth, but we don't want to see huge sigs or avatars. It makes the board look messy.
No offense to Christina Aguilera, but I don't want the board to look like this - http://www.xtinaxposed.com/Xtinaforum/viewtopic.php?t=17382

Yes, as AAnn said, we have a lot of bandwidth & space, but there's no need to use it all up. This board is about discussion, not about images and graphics and avatars and banners. There's a photo gallery for relevant images, and that should suffice. I can't think of any image remotely interesting enough to want to keep seeing it over and over and over again.

....There IS a reason that that is incorperated into boards. I've admined countless boards and have posted at many more, and not once did I find any complaints about the sigs. We have admins and mods here for a reason, if someone has something that doesn't need to be there it can be removed. Sigs are a matter of self expression, thats why they are called Signatures, it's people leaveing their personalized mark on posts.

You're welcome to have a text sig -- you can set it up in your profile -- but you can't have an image in your sig. It's our board (we bought the license for the board, we bought the license for the gallery, we pay for the hosting, etc.), so we've set it up to reflect our preferences. If you post often enough, you can express yourself through words. Images in sigs detract from the content of posts, and can make the board load slowly, which is why we made the decision to remove the image tags.

::shrug:: Your choice, but at least up the characters from 100, I have a nice little sig that reads:
Courage is not the absence of fear, but the knowledge that there is something more important than fear.
Because I thought it a cool quote to share with everyone without haveing to post it, but I can't put it in a sig because it's to long.

Yeah, I'm an Administrator on two of my own boards, and a mod on 3 others, and I've never had a problem with somebody posting porngographic images. I think you guys are just being a little to paranoid.

Porn isn't the only reason. I hate looking at huge banner sigs over and over again. The links to the Christina Aguilera board no longer work because they've gone to a membership only forum, but you can look at a variety of other boards to see examples. Besides, isn't it enough to allow urls in sigs so members can attempt to lure people away to their own boards on the exact same subject?

I still think you people are just to behind when it comes to forums. Get away from Phbb and you'll feel differently about sigs and avatars.

I agree that endless sigs and pics get annoying after a while. Esecially when there's an interesting thread, I don't like having to look for the actual post, which is sometimes a lot smaller than a huge (but irrelevant) picture.

Yea. I think you should let ppl put images in their sigs and see what comes up.
If you dont like it then stop it.
Plus,I expect most ppl like me would have sigs of things like the last supper and with something like the v shape highlighted in it.

I think more are interested in the text content and the dicussion than seeing someone's absolutely pointless artistic efforts at a cliched Grail. The core membership here is so small that I think they all agree on this.
Everyone else usually pops by, says something along the lines of i just red de venci coad n i fink it wiz grate!!! kewl!!!!!! and disappears.

But why would we want to see that over and over and over again? If we want to see that, we can look at the picture in the gallery.
And oh, I know what comes up when you let people have pictures in their sigs...and it's not pretty.

LOL. it took me a bit to decipher that, though. Spelling seems to me to be a lost art.
As for sigs, I think they are fine. A short quote or phrase is enough.

Linear A is a very interesting topic:
Crete was the cradle of the Minoan Civilization, which spanned roughly from 2000 BCE to 1200 BCE. In addition to incredible frescoes, indoor plumbing (!), the Minoans also developed the first written system of Europe.
The oldest example of writing in Crete is a kind of "hieroglyphic" (which means that the signs are picture-like) script. The media where the hieroglyphic inscriptions appeared are mostly clay sealstones.
The origin of the Cretan writing system lies in the extensive use of engraved sealstones, which depict physical objects, to (possibly) record quantities of these objects in soft clay. This forms a natural progression to a systematic writing system.
As time progresses hieroglyphic system became more stylized and more linear. Instead of impressing sealstones in soft clay, the glyphs are incised on the soft clay with a stylus. In addition, quantities are represented by numerals (not multiple impressions of the same sign). As time goes on, it appears that the linear hieroglyphic system evolved into Linear A.
Linear A has roughly 90 symbols, thus most likely a syllabary much like Linear B. However, Linear A has resisted all attempts at decipherment because its underlying language is still unknown and probably will remain obscure since it doesn't seem to relate to any other surviving language in Europe or Western Asia.
Linear B and Cypriot both exhibit considerable similarity to Linear A. Because of its time depth, Linear A appears to be the immediate ancestor to both of these writing systems.

I agree. It's a pity we don't have Linear A symbols on our keyboards, 'cos then we could type in it. But that's only a dream.
Of course, if they would only make this keyboard:

then that dream could become a reality!
