ARTICLE EXCERPT: And what of Brown, the man who set off all this mania three years ago when he wrote "The Da Vinci Code?"
Publisher Doubleday is sharing no details on Brown's next book except that the working title — "The Solomon Key" — has been dropped.
"No title, no content, no publication date, no nothing," Doubleday's Alison Rich says.

lmao, yeah it will! Anyway, what the hell!? I knida liked the name "The Solomon Key". It had a nice ring to it. Angels and Demons...Da Vinci Code...Solomon Key. Meh...oh well, I guess they're gonna be reeeeeeal tight-lipped about this book.

Seem to have a little thing going for me don't you Dazzle. Funny that you didn't reply to my explanatory post last time, but felt you should jump in quickly here with a bit more niggle.
Talking to a number of people, there is a bit of skepticism about this. No official statement was made, it was simply a one sentence reply to an enquiring reporter (from the LA Times I think?), and Doubleday haven't responded to further calls for clarification. It could as easily be interpreted as an off-hand dismissal of yet another annoying enquiry..."no I have no idea when the thing will be finished" (do you really think there is no content?).
It would certainly be a big move for Brown and his publishers to change everything now...they built a whole pre-publicity campaign around the content of the new book, to the degree of even adding clues about it to the dust jacket of The Da Vinci Code. Which also means that it has been the de facto sequel since around 2002. If Brown is really starting from scratch, it raises serious questions about what has gone wrong (National Treasure, perhaps even books like mine, may be possibles). The other possibility is that they may just be trying to diminish any expectation about the next book, until they start their own publicity (I was offered a hell of a lot of money in one country, by Dan Brown's publisher there, to just 'buy it off the market' in order to protect their own publicity program).
Some are suggesting that DB's publishers will tie in the new book publication with the DVD release of The Da Vinci Code movie, which would probably mark the endgame (finally) of TDVC phenomenon, and so would be a good time to start a new bandwagon while trading on the success of TDVC.
I'll reserve judgement until I see something more official.
Peace and Respect, Greg

I wonder what's going on with this book... First the release date was post-poned, now the title is uncertain... Hmmmm. Dan, if you're there, would you care to explain your fanbase what's happening, darling?

I'd love it if DB discovers the real secret behind E Clampus Vitus and writes it into the next novel.
http://www.answers.com/topic/e-clampus-vitus
However, keeping to such deathly serious matters, as with Opus Dei and flagellation etc, the Jesuits and Knights of Malta should take their rightful place in the next effort by DB, IMHO.

That would be great. Perhaps you could suggest Dan to consider your thoughts?

Dan Brown is an author not a historian so I wouldn't count on him cracking any mystical secrets anytime soon.
As far as the title I would have to imagine he is so far into it with all the publicity that he couldn't change the name now even if he wanted to.
Anyone that is into his books already has that title ingrained into their minds.
Plus it's a perfect title for a book about the Masons.

So are you saying that you don't believe in this rumour about the title change? Why do you think it spread?

wow... that is news. It seems that something went wrong. maybe he got caught in a plot hole and needed to rework it
but changing the title seems a bit more. almost like they are changing everything. topic and all. But then again, I have no information about publishing.

If the publisher released the info, id call it a fact not a rumor. And I can't believe Dan Brown is changing the name...I liked it

I agree Silas, it seems to be pretty certain information. I would love to know what's behind this decision, wouldn't we all?

I know I would. You can't rule out the possibility, though, that the whole story is changing, plot and all (as was mentioned earlier). I mean, that's the only reason I could see for the sudden name change. I wonder what Mr. Brown is up to...

Yes, exactly: if the whole story is - indeed - changing, what's going on?
What or/and who is behind this decision?

I was wondering...is the link that was displayed in the original post the only source we have for this news? I mean...I can't find any other articles referring to this topic.

You can look at it two ways. Firstly, the source is very good - Carol Memmott is the Books editor for the L.A Times, so no doubt she has an 'inside line' to Doubleday. On the flipside, why is it buried within the story (on a different topic), when this would be very big book news? As I mentioned in my previous post, the quote alone sounds more like a brush-off ("please don't ask me that question again", in other words) - but Memmott prefaces the quote with her own line saying that the title has been dropped. Was this explicitly stated, or is she extrapolating from the one line comment?
Curious too is that this hasn't shown up anywhere in the publishing world news (such as The Bookseller), which is definitely something you would have expected for a controversy surrounding one of the biggest authors in the world. Again, as I said in my previous post, I'll reserve my judgement until I see something more official (eg. a press release from Doubleday).

Same here...I won't believe it till we get an OFFICIAL say on this. Also, on amazon.com and other websites that will sell the book when it comes out, they still have it listed as "The Solomon Key" and not "Unknown" or something rather. If it was made official by Doubleday, I'm sure Amazon would have changed their listing of the book...

Oh, it's a bad news. I just finished yesterday the novel Angels and Demons (in french) and I was looking for reading The Solomon Key in english. I hope it won't be delayed for too long cause I'm now a big Dan Brown's fan.
I want to read another novel of him, what do you suggest me? Deception Point or Digital Fortress?

Amazon are very good at keeping up to date. Check out the release date for Clive Barker's The Scarlet Gospels.

I went to the library, searched for 20 minutes for the hard cover version they said they had 8 in circulation. 6 were said to be avalible, but no one could find them, so I had to get decepetion point in paper back. lets just say it is a mass market paper back which looks as if it was dropped in water, chewed by a animal, rebound a few times, and was horrible.
I put a reservation on the hardcover version, and they told me they got me a paperback. it was in worse condition.
I really want to read the solomon key, because I will only be able to get it in hardcover when it comes back. but I have not found a readable version of digital fortress or deception point yet in the librarys.

Have you tried a used bookstore? Cheap...and at least you'll be able to see what condition the books are in before you get them.

I guess my last post was a little confusing. it was for deception point and digital fortress.
I got a large sized paperback at costco for like $8.50. I think the publishers of mass market paperbacks should be locked up in a prison. mass market paperbacks are so annoying to read, they fall apart so fast its not even funny. I looking into the record for the mass market I checked out from the library of deception point was brought brand new a month and a half ago.
people like that should not be allowed to barrow library books. chewed on by some animal, dropped in water. yech.

I have a friend who works in the publishing industry and she heard though the industry grapevine (of course, how reliable that is I'll leave for you to decide) that he was also working on a second novel which he's going to publish under a pseudonym (which apparently he has once already--his first book) and which was one of the reasons he held back the release of whatever he's going to call this one. Anybody else heard this? Of course the obvious question is why with a brand name like his would he write under another name?

Brown must be struggling - how could he possibly top TDVC?
That's an incredible hurdle for other authors, and now he has to do one better. Before he could publish in relative anonymity without too much scrutiny -
Now we are almost writing the book for him. I bet he does come onto this forum just to see what people are expecting, yet knowing he still has to out-perform their expectations. Poor guy.

I feel he pre topped da vinci code with angels and demons.
I think he has to make changes because of the fact that kryptos had a error.
wouldnt it rock if he actually solved the real kryptos? and solved the final part of it and release it through his book.
