My favorite movie of all time is National Treasure. And It puts the Masons in a very positive light. Dan Browns next book, the Solomon Key, will mostly put the masons in a slightly, maybe mostly negative light. Whats everyones view on the masons: benevolent secret do-gooders or malevolent secret Satanists?

LoL, I have no clue who the Masons are. Anyone want to explain to an ignorant newbie? In neutral light, of course. Just the facts.

I agree with your thoughts on National Treasure being a great MOVIE...and that's exactly what it was, however, it did gain my attention to research this great fraternity more in-depth. I visited the headquarters in Washington D.C. while doing research out there and spoke to a Master Mason and during the course of my research I have found it does great charity work, but only the top tier members know the truth on what it means to be a true mason. What other way to distract the public and the reputation, than by charity? Of course, no concrete evidence will support this opinion, but in tracing history, patterns don't lie and that is where the truth exists. Time is the answer to your question as in many others.

Well...how to I explain the Masons in a few sentences (so hard!). They claim to be a fraternity (non-secretive) and open to all religions and you just have to believe in a higher being. Some believe (including me) that they are direct descendants of the Knights Templar that were driven out of France in the 14th century when the Pope and King of France wanted them ousted because of jealousy of their wealth and power. Hence, the term "Friday the 13th" because on Friday, Oct.13 1307, the King of France orderd the capture and arrestings of all Knights Templar...some are said to have escaped to England and Ireland where the pope's canon was not as stricly enforced and they resided underground for long periods of time to avoid being persecuted by the church. Soon...they changed their name to Masons and eventually spread back into France and also helped create the United States! However, only the top tier of Masons know the truth of what it means to be a mason in an ongoing effort to avoid what previously happened to them in 1307. Hiram is also a very prominant figure in Masonry as he was the first few builders of Soloman's Temple in Jerusalem. He was killed by other co-workers in a jealous rage because of his knowledge of architecture...hence their "G" symbol along with the compass and ruler. It goes along with G meaning Grand Architect of the World or "God." Hope that helped!

I'm more or less neutral about the Masons, though upset that it's all-male.

This was discussed a few months ago in the "Solomon Key" forum, here--you might want to scan for some of the more heated exchanges between KTMason and EVDebs to get a good contrast of opinions on the matter (e.g. the Am I confused? thread, and the somewhat meandering A Third Temple in Jerusalem is not necessary thread). KT, for instance, would have you remove the word "secret" altogether, claiming that Freemasonry is entirely above-board these days and has nothing to hide, whereas EV would point you to a number of articles that dispute that. The truth (if such a thing exists) doubtless lies somewhere between their two viewpoints, but it's useful to hear out both sides before drawing your own conclusions.

Hi everybody This is my very first post. I was pleased to see a website such as this. That said on to the subject at hand. The hard part about the view on the free masons is that no one can tell for sure, and the people who can do not state their views or motives. I for one believe in the view that national treasure provides, but my opinions and ears are always open for more.

I heard she had some absolutely new researches about antiquities and bible mysteries. so i looked into it. She lectured recently in Washington DC about the Lost Ark of the Covenant" http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P1-2365803.html at howard university. it was fantastic! i didn't attend it was a top secret closed to the public attended by archbishops and phds. my friend, a romanian made a tape. she has a big underground fan base here in colombia and in france where i come from. i feel that when i heard her speak the answer to every question i had was answered. she is amazing !! a messiah. she is coming out with a new book "the christ code" there is already a waiting list for it here of 2,000. i feel that when i heard her speak, the answer to every question i had was answered. her research made my soul stop searching.

yes, here in Latin America we can get little information but the churches who were very disappointed with dan brown slamming pope (our papa) like to quote her. she support the da vinci code but she does not profane the church. you will love her articles if you are interested in masons, templars and Jesus. Jesus is very important here !! her studies are based on archeological fact not fiction. I am on the list !! I have a download for the poste if anyone is interested !!
