Yeah, Johnny Depp is a great actor, but I want to see the special FX. I'm really excited about seeing Captain Davy Jones and his crew more. The whole supernatural hybrid thing between human and sea creature looks awesome. I definitely want to see more than what the trailer shows. Also, Bill Nighy is one of my favorite actors and he plays Davy Jones, PLUS Keira Knightly is in it and there are no words that can adaquetely describe how beautiful that woman is.

Speaking of Johnny Depp. Did anyone else think that while his role in Charlie and the chocalate factory was flawless was also INCREDIBLEY CREEPY! Almost like a mix between Willy Wonka and Micheal Jackson.

Yes, definitely. I could have done without the whole Michael Jackson thing. Not that he wasn't really, really perfect (I mean, he's Johnny Depp. What can you expect?) he just would have been better if I wasn't half expecting him to take on of those boys off on his own.

Well i just got back from a midnight show of seeing Dead Mans's Chest, and excuse my greek but it was fucking awesome. Depp's Sparrow was phenomenol. Bill Nighy's Davy Jones was flawless. Plus the return of my favorite villain of all time Barbossa. Cant wait for the third one.

I was not a great fan of the first part of the “Pirates…” And I was not waiting for the sequel. Three days ago I saw “Dead Man’s Chest”. Now I am waiting for the third part…

What is FX? My English-Russian dictionary does not contain the abbreviation.

I loved both, I thought the first was better though. The second seemed to take a more dark turn.

I see abbreviations based on pronunciations are typical in English. As I know “OK” is the abbreviation based on the pronunciation of the first sounds of the words “all correct”.

As many other people, I like special effects. At the same time I believe a movie is good if you don’t think about special effects during a cinema show. Good effects are indispensable but not only condition for good movie.
The success of “Pirates of the Caribbean” was natural. The unusual beautiful background (Caribbean, ships, pirates), the unusual interesting character (Jack Sparrow is really interesting. He isn’t bad and he isn’t good. He is ambiguous and it makes him more interesting), the twisted plot. These all make a success movie.

As far as I know, OK is just short for okay. If it was all correct, wouldn't it be AK? But that's just a type of gun (Kalashnikov...)

I saw The Curse of The Black Pearl on TV and Dead Man’s Chest in the cinema. No doubt, the impression was greater in the second case. But the third part might be better. Are they going to make fourth movie? I would prefer more optimistic final, but I am afraid the series will degenerate.
However, I would like to ask another question.

I have several DVDs with American movies. Sometimes I see them with English sound and subtitles to train my ears. The Curse of The Black Pearl is one of my DVDs. I found out Davy Jones was mentioned in it. Before it I thought Davy Jones was invented for the Dead Man’s Chest. The name was replaced with other words in Russian version of the first movie. Will Turner says to the cursed pirates, “Do as I say or I’ll pull this trigger and be lost to Davy Jones’s locker,” in the original, but he says, “…and go to sea devil,” in Russian version.
Who is Davy Jones? It seems he is the sea devil. Is he a famous character in English-speaking countries?

The second movie (Dead Man's Chest) is the best of the series thus far, which is unusual for a sequel. However when you eventually watch the third movie, watch all the way to the very end of the credits and you'll be rewarded with a small hint about the potential for future movies in the series.

That's not a bad translation. Davy Jones has been a figure in (British) sailing mythology since the 18th Century. Sailors referred to Davy Jones as another name for the devil who claimed the souls of sailors who died at sea. Going to "Davy Jones' locker" meant going to a sailor's version of hell.

The name "Davy Jones" wasn't meant to refer to a real person, though--it was a way of referring to the devil without speaking his name (in the same way that in the Harry Potter books they refer to "He-Who-must-Not-Be-Named" instead of "Voldemort"). It was a superstitious belief that uttering the name of such a powerful and evil being would draw his unwanted attention, so British sailors used "Davy Jones" instead.

Thank you, Arras.
Sometimes I visit English Wikipedia for checking spelling of proper names and titles. But usually I check spelling of information from off-line sources; to tell the truth, I am not a great fan of the Internet. But now I am about to change my mind on Wikipedia. During my last visit to it I found interesting information not only on Davy Jones but also on Kraken. I did not ask about Kraken because it was not so mysterious for me, I heard of sea monsters many times. Different sea monsters are of different types. Kraken was a cephalopod. Another sea monster was the sea serpent described in the book The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C. S. Lewis (I was fond of his The Chronicles of Narnia in my teens).

I find it difficult to choose the best from two first movies Pirates of the Caribbean. Dead Man’s Chest on the widescreen impressed me, after that I bought DVD The Curse of the Black Pearl to refresh the first movie of the series. I saw the DVD and liked the film very much. Perhaps, I just had been biased against much-talked Hollywood movies previously; and TV was not a cinema.

To my mind At World's End does not make a clear hint about future movies. The fourth movie may be or may not be. We shall live and we shall see.

One thing may be said certainly. Hollywood changes a pirate’s image. Before Pirates of the Caribbean John Silver was a pirate. Now it is Jack Sparrow.
