In the first chapter, Susan talks about "heading north" to Smoky Mountains. Aren't they in Maryland? Is n't this mountain in the south? I don't live in the US, and would like my American friends to clarify this for me. Thanks a bunch!
He laughed. "It's still dark out." "Mmm." She moaned sensuously. "Then definitely come over and play. We can sleep in before we head north." David let out a frustrated sigh. "That's why I'm calling. It's about our trip. I've got to postpone."

The Smoky Mountains are in Tennessee and North Carolina, but I don't remember where Susan & David are, so other than that, I'm not much help.

David teaches in Georgetown University. Susan works in Fort Mead. So is it possible that they live somewhere south of North Carolina? A very long drive it seems.

No, they don't own anything that fancy either... Well, I guess it's just another factual error. Too bad, I really enjoyed the book. There are just so many little mistakes. For example, La Giralda doesn't have stairs; it has ramps-- 35 of them. How can Hulohot run three steps at a time?

Who cares if some obscure part of a forign country has a ramp! It is a great book don't let the silly little mistakes in any novel spoil that for you.

I'm just trying to point out that I don't believe Brown when he says that he studied Art history at Seville University.
Seville, in Spain, is not an obscure part of some foreign country to many people. Any more than New York in the USA may be to you. In Europe, it is a major city. The point is Brown', claims of scholarship and research just don't hold water. There are too many mistakes for it to be always for dramatic effect. The man is a school-teacher masquerading as an intellectual.

Perdue's websites/blogs have uncovered some interesting bits about Dan Brown - how most of his pastimes appear to be putting spin on his own achievements.* Maybe he suffers from some sort of delusional syndrome that creates factitious histories.
* One of my favourites was the one where, discussing his whereabouts in the early 80s, he said he had travelled with a much reknowned group (I forget the name, but it was an acronym) but, when he discovered the acronym Perdue found it to be some university squash club.
