Historian Leigh Teabing claims the founding fathers of Christianity hijacked the good name of Jesus for political reasons. Do you agree? Does the historical evidence support Teabing’s claim?

I already admitted I'm no religious scholar and I have no religious teaching in my upbringing. However, I can read things like Time Magazine, and I can watch the Discovery Channel I saw a great documentary about Mary Magdalene on Discovery a couple of weeks ago, and it was suggested that Jesus' original teachings were "modified" by the remaining apostles after his death, because the apostles didn't want to give women the equal opportunities that Jesus preached. It was suggested that Jesus chose Mary as his successor and confidante, but once he had died, the other apostles figured they didn't need to listen to her (a mere woman), so they tweaked and modified the teachings to fit their own needs. If I remember correctly, these observations came from the gospels of Thomas and Phillip (from those infamous Nag Hammadi scrolls). I think it was Peter, of the infamous St. Peter's Bar and Grill, who decided that he'd like to be in charge after Jesus died.
As I said, I'm obviously no scholar. I watch TV. I like to learn things, though. This is a grade school synopsis of what I recall from a TV show, but I'm sure I'll recieve a proper education from others on this subject as this board grows.

I wouldn't doubt if Jesus' message was altered by the change of time. Just like the age old game of having a classroom start with one person and then that person whispers something to another, each time the story gets more stretched. I think that the modern day version of the Bible definitely isn't 100% accurate, for sure.

well, the history WAS changed, that I am sure of but I wouldn't call it that...after all, Jesus definitely has a "good name" now, and it may not have been so good had it not been changed...after all, as I understand it, Catholicism was originally changed/formed to accomodate people of varying beliefs. Even the name means "for everyone".

Ebvery VChristian holiday and holyday is based upon a 'pagan' day - starting with his "birth" on Christmas and ending with his "death and resurection" on Easter.
The stories surrounding his birth in a manger, his raising the dead, walking on water - all of it - are also storios from earlier religions. Saints are nothing more than minor gods of other religions. They stole everything they could to make their religion palatable to the people of the time.

I know, and it worked..I mean, think of how many catholics there are. However, I do think there are a few concepts of Christianity that I don't recall in any previous religions, like Christ's purported divinity, as a 'son of God" being in one sense, "one with God".

Actually, the concept of Jesus as Son of God is not unique to Christianity. it is found in several other myths, including Mongol mythology.

Not a lot - religion is only a hobby with me and I haven't delved into this in quite a while. But the concept of son of God, Virgin birth, even being born in a cave or manger and born into a poor family all have their roots in other myths...

I know about the virgin birth and manger thing, but I never heard of another religion with the concept that a being is both mortal and divine.
