And other test for Opus Dei. The cult group is now trying to ensure that as few people as possible see the Da Vinci Code movie...

I wonder if Opus Dei realises how much negative publicity they are generating for themselves here in the UK...

Opus Dei are so used to operating in secret, and controlling people through the use of ritual, that they have no idea about influencing the opinions of those outside their control.

All great publicity for the Da Vinci Code movie. All Opus Dei will achieve through their actions, is to ensure that the movie will be an even bigger hit than it would have been otherwise.

It strikes me the Opus Dei people need to be careful. There are some sleeping giants they *really* don't want to wake. Opus Dei are powerful only because others *let* them be powerful.
Word is reaching me that the giants may be stirring. This could be interesting...

Funny you should mention 'Sleeping Giants': I think it was quite brave of Dan Brown to make such a dig @ Opus Dei... Dodgy albinos aside, it's not exactly a secret that very prominet figures are memebers of Opus Dei. If you think about it, how many people would have the courage to bluntly 'attack' or 'critisize' - if you prefer - such a powerful organization?

I probably won't. I prefer world cinema over Hollywood candy dross.

Hi All,
I read various press reports that Opus Dei are still in the mood to sue the producers of the DVC film if they do not remove objectionable material, re, Silas-the-assasin! It appears that they are taking this thing seriously...Dan had better watch his back!

I just read an AP wirestory that DVC will be the opening movie shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Score one for DB, zero for Opus Dei !

I wonder if anyone realises that Silas wouldn't have been able to aim a gun at anything smaller than a barn door if he were a real life person with albinism! I enjoyed the book but was surprised at the inaccuracy.

It's true, most albinos do have serious sight deficiences. You shouldn't be surprised at this error in the book, though: many books and films portray albinos with red eyes and great eye sight. Dan has simply taken inspiration from countless other fictional albino characters from the past.

You are right of course - but... I'm an eye doctor so it jars a bit!! Still, a good fun read nonetheless - got me reading about Fibonacci sequences amongst other things.

I believe those kind of portrayals also jar with albinos; in many ways, the characterisations are quite general.

Well, you know what they say, all publicity is good publicity. I think that whether Opus Dei likes it or not, this is going to be huge at the box office. They could always look at it from a different point of view too. With the movie coming out more people will become familiar with the Da Vinci Code plot line, so they may become interested and research Opus Dei and see what this "Work of God" organization has to say for themselves.

In an effort to defy opus dei and the church, I will see DVC as many times as possible. Our way of making it clear to them that we are defiant and do not accept the ways of the church or opus dei. I encourage everyone to make a stand against them and see this movie as often as you can.

I'm fairly certain that this movie is going to be big enough as it is, without you having to see it "as often as you can"

Love the plan MUFC, i'm totally in! So anyway, i'm definatly going to see it! I loved this book and the movie I predict will be just as good. (Reason: Tom Hanks). I do agree that this statement did more "damage" to Opus Dei than it did good. People love to do things that they are told not to do, take it from me I'm still in highschool lol.

Yes Dash, very well said. Reverse psychology is a pretty basic concept to grasp. I wonder if Opus Dei haven't realised that yet.

To support Dan? See the movie because you want to see it, not because a multi-millionaire needs your support.

To say that you want to support Dan, does not mean you want him to get richer. In my view, it just means to show your true entusiasm for someone you genuinely admire.

That's a good point. I think true fans should go to see the movie only once, after all. If they want to see it more than that, they should wait for the DVD.

When someone says they want to show support by repeatedly seeing the movie, it sounds financial.

Yes, it may sound that way but I think it's a bit more subtle.
Being a fan of someone normally involves the desire of wanting the 'Idol' to be successful, as a projection of the fan own aspirations/desirres.
So if the film is successful (millions and millions of viewers), the fan is satisfied, and the fan feels he/she has contributed to this success; this process tends to temporarely fullfill the fan's desires of success...
