Would you rather live in a world without religion…or a world without science?

I don't think we could survive without science, but we'd do well without organized religion.

I would definitely prefer a world without religion. While science has definitely caused some 'evils' (ie the H bomb) religious intolerance has caused much more harm.

hmmmm... as a former physics student, i said, "Get rid of Science! (before my test next week)" But...I don't really know. Can you get rid of religion? I think people are constantly making up religious beliefs, so getting rid of them may not be plausible.

I agree, as I am an aethiest (sp? im stupid) but I think that a world without religion would cause some chaos. People rely on religion and god to help them cope with loss and death and tradgedy and stuff like that. Although, i do NOT like the fact that religion has created so much intolerance. Man invented god.

Right... other than atheists, most people try to come up with or find some religious beliefs to comfort them at times of loss or to explain the unexplainable--what happens after death??

exactly - without science we'd be stupid and without religion we'd be depressed. furthermore, people fail to realize that they are technically one and the same: a way to explain everything.

Religion explains nothing. Nada, zilch, zero.

Why would there be chaos without religion? Methinks there's chaos BECAUSE there's religion.

I dunno - I'm not religious and I'm not depressed. One could rightly argue that much of religion causes depression.

For many, no religion would lead to all those things science can't answer or the human mind can't deal with. [Logically, after I die, i'll be dead. No more. Finis. Caput. Story over......but my mind can't understand that, so, there's religion to tell me that I'll go to heaven or be reincarnated or whatever.]

Of course it will never happen - at least in any of our lifetimes. It's a nice wish, though.....

People have lived with NO science (compared to what we have now) only a few hundred years ago!
If you walk around hollywood blvd at night, you'll notice how many people manage to live without religion.
I think it'd be much safer to stay away from the religion.
Another interesting question to consider though... "What killed more people, Science or Religion?"

"What killed more people, Science or Religion" Oh, undoubtedly, religion, but then again, science hasn't been around for as long...

Apples and Oranges. Religion used science to kill.

How did religion use science to kill? Unless you mean lethal injections and etc., in which case, its not really religion that did the killing.

'EY! The science you're thinking of is modern medicine and computer etc etc. Science has always been around, because people have been experimenting with stuff since the early days, with things such as herbal remedies and other things. You know what I mean.

Interesting...eveyone in here is CERTAIN religion is false. Is this question, which would you rather deal without, even a question if they worked together? or stopped trying to disprove each other? rather shook hands? Take a look at Dan's other book, Angels & Demons. TRUTH

Everyone in here is probably "certain" of their own beliefs, which may or may not be yours.

I'm not trying to impede on anyone. I'm just posing the idea, what if science and religion are related? Or go hand in hand? And that IF the big bang theory is true (or other popular theories; first one that came to mind), it's scientifically innacurate, because matter cannot come from no where. Scientifically stating, there has to be a beginning to everything physical in nature, requiring this universe, time, place, galaxy, even the two entities that banged together to have a definite beginning. While not wanting to start a creation - evolution debate, I'm just curious to why these two things, religion and science, always seem like they're against each other. TRUTH

Religion does not cause chaos. People cause chaos. You can always point fingers at religion, but the simple fact is is that people do dumb stuff to themselves and people around them. Religion does not make people steal/kill/rape/lie etc...

There is only one thing wrong with what you are saying truth... there has not been any evidence that religion and science DO go hand in hand. I think if the catholic church did not oppose science so much, we could actaully have some answers to all of this.

I dunno, look around these days. What do you think has caused all the bombings, atheism? The Crusaders, Hitler, the IRA, al-Qaeda, et al - what do these groups have in common, you know, besides violence? Oh yeah, religion.

Radical beliefs, yes, but I think blaming religion is using a "straw man" argument. Not all religions are violent--in fact, almost none are. it's the fanatcs who go too far that are a problem.

Yes, it's the fanatics...the religious fanatics. You don't see gardening fanatics strapping bombs to themselves.

LOL! Now that would be funny. Perhaps you would, though, to protest oil drilling in Alaska or rising manure prices! But then, political fantatics got to some crazy lengths as well, I guess gardening just isn't taken as seriously. Perhaps this is because you don't have to convince other people of your ideas in gardening, but in (some) religions and in politics, you do.

You know what... you're totaly right. I never really thought about it that way. You don't see wrestling fanatics or gaming fanatics running around blowing there enemies to pieces (in real life anyway). Nice Point!

I think that the problem is that there is so much ignorance and fear that they are dangerous domination tools. Some people need religion to find some sense to their lives and they accept everything without questioning and the same happens lots of times with science.

Religion and Science are very similar in that reguard. Really, science is a form of religion. Personally, i think everyone is too stubborn, on both sdies of the arguement. Lets all just get along
