Dan Brown may have used ambigrams in the novel as fiction, but there is a genuine mystery that has been found. So perhaps on some level he was not so far from the truth, and that ambigrams are indeed an enigma. Please follow the link to find out more

Modderman, this is the 4th time your reply has been "Very Interesting!" Can you vary it up a bit? or are you just replying so you have enough posts to start a new thread?

Yes, I confess - I have been giving Modderman some (bad) tips! ;-)
Having said that, it's quite plausible that he/she would genuinely find these posts 'Very interesting', don't you think?
Nevermind Modderman, you'll soon get it...

I see what you mean. The mystery is - why are the ambigrams in that link so bad? I can't read any of them, no matter which way up they are!
Just kidding ;-) But come on - that was a SHAMELESS plug!!!

I can see that from your point of view that it may look like that, and I was actually going to delete the post but left it too late. I don't see it like that myself to be honest and I am not selling anything, my intention is to share information and to learn from peoples opinions. The book does portray ambigrams in a myterious light and I believe that this is true on some level, and felt others may be interested (or not) to know. I am only to grateful to receive any feedback, good or bad. Peace

DHN, I liked your blog...and there was no reason for you to not link to it, except that you linked to it a bit excessively. That's taken care of, so it's all good now.
Anyway, I think ambigrams are cool and I'm always happy to see new ones.

In my rush I admit I fell into the same trap as Modderman in order to post originally, my mistake. I appreciate your comments, thanks Shuya, Remarkable and AAnnAArchy.

Wow DHN, I really like your Ambigrams: I find them very inventive and distinctive. Excellent work, if I may say so. ;-)

MsVetra I know that some of them can be a challenge to read, especially the ones with four words, thank you for sticking with them and I appreciate your comments.

I've often wondered, are there any words that are impossible to make ambigrams from?

I've also often wondered if certain languages are more adatable than others - maybe Sephia could let us know her opinion.

I'm not sure there's a difference between languages (unless they use totally different ways of writing). I really like the ambigrams in Angels and Demons; it's amazing the secrets of those particular ambigrams were lost for so long.

Yes, what I meant is - I recall reading that Sephia is fluent in Russian. So maybe she or someone else could tell us if different types of alphabets could be considered more adaptable (e.g. Greek, Russian, Arab, Chinese, Japanese...)

I wonder if anyone has explored the concept of Chinese ambigrams?

Yes there are some Chinese ambigrams, Japanese and so on. There is a good one by David Moser that reads 'Sea' in Chinese, and English when viewed sideways. I have an ambigram that says 'Japanese' in Japanese and then in English sideways on. As I don't actually read Japanese it's on hold for now, and I wouldn't want to say something offensive by mistake.

lol. I've never actually attempted to make any ambigrams in Russian. For the most part, it would be very similar, though there are some letters in the Slavic alphabet that do not appear in the Latin one. I would assume a Russian G (Which looks like a T except the top only sticks out in one direction) might be a bit hard to make look natural, along with the Russian D, which looks like a Trapezoid with little bars sticking out on the bottom.

Are those on the Net anywhere? They sound wicked.

If you type in David Moser, or Chinese ambigram in Google you will get several hits. Also type Japanese ambigrams for several, but you probably have to read Japanese to really appreciate those.

Oh yes! Thanks DHN! For those that don't want to search, the following link takes you there:

Scroll down to see the word Sea in both English and the Chinese character!

Another cool multi-language ambigram here:

Can you find the hidden English word?

I woud say 'Tokyo', but that was a quick guess. You may have have something there Remarkable, although it may have been unintentional to put an english word in the design, could it have formed naturally? I have found that this happens in multi word ambigrams. Well spotted.
