in A&D the carmelengo was conceived by artificial insemination. I looked up for the heck of it, how old this science is, and was fascinated to find that it was invented by a scientist who was also a PRIEST in the 1700's!! That is sooo "Dan Brown"!! Read all about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_insemination http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lazzaro_Spallanzani

Yea but i think they are much more against sex and they are against the condom so they either condemn the worlds catholic population or pay for everyone to get IBF

Are you referring to the 'solitary vice'? Absolutely frightful practice! Rosey

Yeah, both A.I. and the very act of umm..."donating" the semen would be seen as unholy, right?

AI would be seen as "playing God". I am not sure about Semen donations, though.

I believe the official position is that as long as you use a turkey baster, it's OK ;-)
In all seriousness though, Illuminat69, artificial insemination was practised much before 1700 in ancient Egypt. You have to remember that when civilisations are lost, much of their knowledge is lost too. Hence the reinvention of the technique multiple times throughout history.

I know I better not argue with you on this one
What I found COMPLETELY laughable in the novel was that the bishop and the nun were soooooo in love AND they desperately wanted a child - AND YET they stayed chaste.
Of course, it is more than possible (in theory) but how unlikely!!!!!
Bless Dan's innocence!

Well, that is just what was said. It doesn't mean that they didn't have sex, in reality.

I got an off the wall notion... It is said in the book and/or movie "A&D" that "Vittoria Vetra" was the adopted daughter of CERN Director Scientist, Maximillian Kohler. Is there any indication that she might have been an "AI"?
