In the beggining and end of the book Robert Langdon is dreaming about being married. Any thoughts?

Is he really dreaming of getting married? I don't recall that in the book.

I was wondering about that. I have no idea what that's for.

I was also pondering that. I think that in the end he wants to marry Vittoria, but hey, I don't know!

I doubt it will happen. More likely there will be a new Langdon-girl (similar to the Bond-girls, except with brains!) in Solomon Key.

I don't know..I think his character is more attractive as a single guy! Of course this is from a woman's perspective...

OMG sorry illuminati I thought u were a guy. So for being so rude. I humbley apologise.
I think Robert should stay single. His constant undieing love for different woman in each book are what keeps him going when hes in danger eg stuck in the Vaticans Vault

I think he should stay single until Dan Brown plans the final book in the Robert series and then he should wrap it up with Robert marrying Vittoria. Kind of make it go full circle.

Dan's speciality is giving meaningful clues. If you think about it, it's quite clear what he means...

Yeah, I agree with you. What do you think? Should he marry Vittoria or Sophie?

It's not a matter of what we think. It's how Robert feels that counts, surely. And if you want to know what Robert feels, you need to read the books carefully...

It would be interesting to see how many male gay readers found themselves attracted to Robert Langdon. You never know - after a series of brainy women, Robert could turn to men... I'd quite like such twist ;-)

I doubt it. While I would definitely approve, it would strike too much of a hot issue. DB seems to limit his issues a bit--you have a certain number of contraversial things in the books and adding a homosexual relationship which, while interesting, would be superfluous (unless they went to MA and got married and ::Insert plot point here:: happened...). I doubt it would happen, though, incidentally, Harvard is in MA..... ;-)

I agree with you Sephia, DB is too mainstream to decide to alienate his readers introducing a brave twist like that.

I don't think it would be true to the character of Robert Langdon. There are no hints given that he might be gay - for example, nowhere does Dan Brown have him getting aroused by Hassassins or albinos.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!
Now that would be a VERY interesting plot twist! The Solomon Key equivalent of Silas or the Hassassin leering at Langdon, and Langdon thinking, "Damn, but he's hot!"

To be serious. It seems to me there is the problem with modern literature, movies etc. It is connected with showing characters of men and women. In the past, men accomplished exploits for beautiful ladies, ruled the history and so on. Women often played roles of minor importance or were in subordinated status. You can say it is not so. Of course, often women were key figures in the plot. They took decisions and intrigued and managed men’s deeds. But women did not win the dragons or govern the states. Women did not establish the rules. Now epoch is changed. Women became more active in the social life. At their leisure, girls and women often want to read about true heroines or see them in the movies. They want to see active girls and women. And clever producers understand it. And girls and women receive main roles (for instance I like ‘Totally Spies’ on FoxKids). So if both man and woman are the main characters the author faces the problem. On the one side the man would be courageous. He must be the true man. On the other side he wouldn’t suppress the women. I believe Dan Brown could solve this problem. When I had read A&D I liked Robert Langdon and I liked Vittoria Vetra. I knew in the DVC there would be a new girl. And I lightly swore at Robert Langdon. I thought he was someone like unfinished James Bond. However, in the DVC, Dan Brown correctly replaced Langdon’s girl. And as in A&D, Robert and his new partner were equal in rights. I badly hope ‘Solomon Key’ will not disappoint me.
I have to recognize I may be wrong. My conclusions are based on movies and animated serials. I am not familiar with modern literature. Usually I read classical literature, both prose and poetry.

Depite all the "Langdon, Robert Langdon" jokes going around, I think Robert could deal with being married. The problem is that if his wife knew everything, too, it would be boring, and if she didn't, then why would she even be along for all the fun? Vittoria and Sophie were personally connected to the main plots of the books (both because of the deaths of a close family member), but it's a stretch if his wife were to be the same.

Angels and Demons also has Robert Langdon. Vittoria is like the Sophie of that book.

i've only read Angels & Demons, but it seems to me that langdon couldn't just tie himself down to marriage. honestly, his job would probably be a lot easier as a bachelor. Although, there's still some part of him that wants to finally find love and act on it. i loved how the beginning and the end of the book tied together in that sense. he had the same dream, but the second time instead of a random woman, he saw vittoria as his wife. i do agree that we need different women in each book to motivate him along, but i'd like to see him really care about one person and, whether they're in the book or not, work towards prevailing for their sake.
