Hi all,
I followed the Path of Illumination last week & have posted some photos of the various sites at the link below - they're not commented or anything but I've labelled the files so you can see which "altar of science" each photo refers to.

Great pictures. How long did it take you to follow the path?

It took about 4 hours - I booked it online through this web site: http://www.angelsanddemons.it/ - they take you around in a minibus to the various sites - it's probably cheaper to do it yourself but the tour saves you the hassle of trying to drive all over Rome getting lost. I recommend the tour to anyone going to Rome, the guide was pretty helpful & the entrance fee to Castel StAngelo is included in the price.
The only part I felt disappointed with was the "Air" marker - in the novel it sounds like there is only one "Breath of God" pointing to the next marker, but there are actually about 12 of them, all pointing in different directions! However, the West Potente is the only one directly in line with the Vatican and the central Obelisk, so I suppose we can let Mr Brown off!

It's worth pointing out that if you click the "View Slideshow" link you get to see each picture properly enlarged without having to click on each thumbnail separately.

I very much look foward to the day when I get to see it all.
My Biology teacher went to Rome a few weeks ago and spent the whole lesson boasting about when he saw the Pope.

Wow, breathtaking, and considering I just finished "A&D", I am in shock and feel like I am seeing the words written.

I was in Rome back in 1989, As breaktaking as those photos are, you must see the city in person. You will be in heaven

Nice pictures illuminator.
I am probably going to italy next year and i am hoping to stay in a town 100 miles from Rome, 100 miles from florence and 100 miles from pisa so i hope to see loads of stuff like the sistine chapel and to other churches on the path of illumination, the virgin mary by Michelangelo, statue of pisa, loads of art etc.
And that tour website has helped me greatly.
So I thank you

Having been to Rome a few times, visualising this book was for me, fairly simple. What made me laugh, though, was the scene where Robert Langdon meets the Hassassin in Piazza Navona (Water). If you had been to that magnificent piazza, you'd remember it as a very vibrant place, with floods of tourists, charming cafes and restaurants 'al fresco' (especially popular at night). I know that in the book - at that point - everyone seems to be in Piazza S. Pietro (S. Peter's square), but still... This image of a deserted Piazza Navona, where a naked, chained,chest-branded cardinal is thrown into one of the massive fountains and all that follows, is the most difficult part of the book for me to accept!

And while we're at it: does anyone share my unease when coming across the most prominent victims of Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code? WHY ARE THEY ALL NAKED? No disrespect, but all these men are *old* (Sauniere, Vetra, the 4 cardinals) and the thought of their bareness is not (for me) one of the most thrilling points - not something I *really* want to picture in my mind!

Well, try to imagine all the men have the body of Ricky Martin. Perhaps that will make you feel better?

LOL! Good try but I'm afraid I already associate the image of the gorgeous Ricky Martin with some other kind of 'picture' that *cough* you (I seem to remember) described to me!

I was in Rome this past summer and I'm so frustrated now, because I just started reading A&D. It just burns me to know that I probably walked right past a couple of these places and didn't even know. And to think I spent 2 days at the collosseum, thinking that was the coolest thing in Rome. DAMMIT!

Nevermind, MUFC_illuminati. The Colosseum is just as good: persecutions, violence, blood, evil figures, power-games. Not so different from the A&D plot - after all!

And, to your list, in the next book I'm guessing we might be able to add: alcohol, betrayal and lust.
We are talking about the Masons, after all...

I know, the collosseum rocks, but I wish I had known about the path as well. Oh yeah, the masons are cool, so don't diss... or they'll find you.

Whenever you manage to go, Silas, I promise you that you will not be disappointed, apart from the Path of Illuminati, Rome is such an enchanting city...
