Hi all,
I followed the Path of Illumination last week & have posted some photos of the various sites at the link below - they're not commented or anything but I've labelled the files so you can see which "altar of science" each photo refers to.

Great pictures. How long did it take you to follow the path?

It took about 4 hours - I booked it online through this web site: http://www.angelsanddemons.it/ - they take you around in a minibus to the various sites - it's probably cheaper to do it yourself but the tour saves you the hassle of trying to drive all over Rome getting lost. I recommend the tour to anyone going to Rome, the guide was pretty helpful & the entrance fee to Castel StAngelo is included in the price.
The only part I felt disappointed with was the "Air" marker - in the novel it sounds like there is only one "Breath of God" pointing to the next marker, but there are actually about 12 of them, all pointing in different directions! However, the West Potente is the only one directly in line with the Vatican and the central Obelisk, so I suppose we can let Mr Brown off!

It's worth pointing out that if you click the "View Slideshow" link you get to see each picture properly enlarged without having to click on each thumbnail separately.

I very much look foward to the day when I get to see it all.
My Biology teacher went to Rome a few weeks ago and spent the whole lesson boasting about when he saw the Pope.
